About Me

Hi there and thanks for visiting my Blog.

I'm a 38 year old guy from Auckland, New Zealand.

I'm a Banker by day (dangerous profession these days I know), family guy, part time blogger by night and wanna be runner who at the moment can only dream about getting out there on the roads and trails, sucking in the deep breaths and clocking up some miles.

After becoming hooked in 2006 I've basically had to battle shin and foot injuries ever since and at present I'm sitting on side lines again. I'm pretty determined to get over these issues and get back out there but it's fair to say 2008 was a frustrating year during which I logged a whopping 99 miles.

So far I've run one Half Marathon in 2006 and a handful of other races and I'm desperate to get back to the start line again at some stage in the future. For more about how I got hooked on running and my build up to the 2006 Auckland Half Marathon click here.

I'll be using the blog as a means to keep my motivation up to one day return to running. For now though my efforts will be going into cross training to stay fit, resting my injuries and researching treatment options.

When I'm not working, or thinking about running, I've got my beautiful wife Michelle, and two boys, Jack (7) and Sam (5), and my new baby daughter Alice at home to keep me in line.

Other sporting interests include playing golf, watching New Zealand's number one sports team, the All Blacks, and our less well known Black Caps (Cricket).

I'm not a huge book reader or listener to music, though I have read "Chi Running" by Danny Dreyer a couple of times recently and have just received for Christmas a copy of Dean Karnazes' book "50 Marathons 50 Days". I am steadily working my way through the running section at our local library though and will post more about the books I read.

Keep at it. Just imagine how great the feeling will be for you when you are able to be at that starting line after everything you have gone through.

Have a Happy New Year!

I hope 2009 is the year your injuries are finally put behind you. Thanks for the insight into the man behind the blog. ;)

Ah, that's working now :)

Yes, I've been known to roll the arm over and wield the willow a bit in backyard cricket. I offered my services but they went for some blokes a few years younger.

Actually, the last two tests have been really fascinating. It's good to see a team serve it up to us at home - it's been a while.

Best of luck getting back on the road in 2009. One step at a time, right?
